Lollapalooza, one of world?s biggest international music festivals, today opened public voting on apps resulting from the HackLolla challenge, an open data application challenge that invited developers to build web and mobile apps using Lollapalooza?s recently opened API. Fans and developers can explore and vote for the best applications at: http://hacklolla.com/submissions.

During the challenge submission period, developers created 19 diverse mobile and web applications that help fans to get the most from their Lollapalooza experience before, during and after the Festival.

?The HackLolla challenge has created some fantastic apps that will build on and enhance the festival?s music and digital experiences,? said Michael Feferman, Digital Director at C3 Presents, the producers of Lollapalooza. ?We encourage developers to further explore the data Lollapalooza has opened up and continue to build new and innovative fest apps.?

Submitted apps range from schedule recommenders, to apps that help fans discover and enjoy new bands, to apps that help share festival images and video, to social games that predict the next song to be played on a stage and more.

Two winning apps, a Grand Prize winner and People?s Choice winner, will be publicized to the entire Lollapalooza fan base and attendees, and the winning developers will each receive 2 VIP passes to Lollapalooza 2011. The Grand Prize winner will be judged on quality, implementation and potential impact on the Lollapalooza fan experience, and will also receive airfare and hotel accommodations for the festival.

Fans can cast their vote for the People?s Choice winner on the Hacklolla website that?s powered by ChallengePost, a public platform that enables social problem solving, through 5:00 pm EST on July 10, 2011 and winners for both awards will be announced July 12, 2011.

?The fruits of HackLolla will help fans discover even more about bands they know and love as well as new artists and festival events,? said ChallengePost CEO, Brandon Kessler. ?Linking technology and music publishing content through HackLolla is a great manifestation of public collaboration around valuable open data.?

Lollapalooza, one of world?s biggest international music festivals, today announced the grand prize and popular choice winners of the HackLolla challenge, an open data application challenge that invited developers to build web and mobile apps using Lollapalooza?s recently opened API.

The Grand Prize winner, Veokami for Lollapalooza, was developed by serial entrepreneur Brett Welch and his team Chris Hartley and Matt Read. Development started on May 6, 2011 at Music Hack Day in San Francisco.

The winning app helps fans relive their favorite Lollapalooza performances by collecting and chronologically organizing fan-sourced YouTube videos. The app offers fans more than one perspective through multiple camera angles and the ability to tag friends and comment on specific ?moments? during video clips. Veokami for Lollapalooza is still in private beta and it will be launching in time for use at Lollapalooza in August.

?We were really excited by the variety in the HackLolla entries, and especially by the creativity and utility of the Grand Prize winning app,? said Michael Feferman, Digital Director at C3 Presents, the producers of Lollapalooza. ?Veokami for Lollapalooza is unlike anything we?ve seen before, and we think it will significantly improve the post-festival experience for our fans.?

The HackLolla Popular Choice winner, as voted for by fans, is Who?s Now Who?s Next- Lollapalooza 2011 Edition, an app developed by a team headquartered in Chicago that has attended 11 Lollapaloozas collectively.

The app, currently available in the Android Market, helps festival-goers categorize and plan out what upcoming Lollapalooza acts they wish to experience. It operates as a completely native app and once downloaded can function fully without Internet access.

HackLolla was powered by ChallengePost, a public platform that enables social problem solving. During the challenge submission period developers created 19 distinct mobile and web applications that help fans to get the most from their Lollapalooza experience before, during and after the Festival.
